If you are using a music service for
personal use i.e in your home you don't need an IMRO or PPI
license. However if you are using any music in a venue or
retail outlet you need an IMRO and PPI license whether you
have a DJ, cd, computer or any form of recorded music
playing. Likewise
using the NET-DJ music service you will also need an IMRO
and PPI license.
IMRO is an organization that looks after the interests of
songwriters and publishers (the people who write the songs
and music).
PPI looks after the interests of the record companies that
actually own the recordings that you hear playing on a
radio, jukebox, by a DJ, or on a computer or satellite
system
This must be paid by all businesses to IMRO and PPI
directly. You most likely already have one if you are
running a business but check to make sure you have a current
IMRO and PPI license in place. |
